This is probably my favorite quote by Chogyam Trungpa, among so many good ones. Trungpa’s words point to the deepest source of our fear: the desperate search for something permanent to hold onto. We spend our lives reaching for certainty, identity, beliefs, and security, yet reality offers no fixed ground. At first this feels terrifying, like falling endlessly through empty space. But the liberating insight is that there is no impact awaiting us. When we stop resisting the fall, we discover that openness itself is our true nature. Freedom is found not by securing a foothold, but by relaxing into the boundless, groundless expanse of experience.
