The Tibetan word zöpa (བཟོད་པ་) is commonly translated as “patience,” but its meaning extends far beyond simply waiting calmly or enduring inconvenience. It also carries the sense of forbearance, resilience, and the inner capacity to remain unshaken in the face of difficulty or profound truth. In the Mahayana tradition, one of its highest expressions is the ability to “bear” the realization of emptiness without recoiling into fear or conceptual certainty. As insight dissolves the illusion of a solid, independent self, zöpa is the courage to remain open and at ease in that groundless freedom until emptiness is recognized not as a threat, but as the very nature of reality.
This piece is handwritten in the Tibetan Chuyig script, using a calligraphy pen. It’s made to order and includes artist’s seal.
