This piece features the Tibetan words for hope (rewa) and fear (jigpa). Rewa is featured in white while jigpa is solid black.
In Tibetan Buddhism, hope and fear are often seen as two sides of the same attachment. Hope arises when we cling to desired outcomes, while fear appears when we try to avoid pain, loss, or uncertainty. Together, they keep the mind restless and dependent on external conditions for happiness.
An endless knot rests above the word “fear” as a symbol of wisdom overcoming grasping and uncertainty. In Tibetan Buddhism, fear arises from attachment and the illusion of separateness. The knot, representing interconnection, compassion, and the timeless nature of mind, presses down upon fear and dissolves its hold. What appears tangled becomes whole. What appears threatening becomes part of a larger unity.
