In Buddhism, “as it is” refers to seeing reality directly, free from conceptual elaboration, hopes, fears, and habitual projections. Rather than perceiving the world through the lens of attachment and aversion, one learns to encounter experience exactly as it appears. In Dzogchen, this principle points to the recognition of the mind’s primordial nature, naturally pure, luminous, and already complete. Nothing needs to be fabricated, improved, or rejected. Thoughts, emotions, and perceptions arise and dissolve within awareness without altering its essence. To rest in “as it is” is to recognize the inseparability of appearance and emptiness, samsara and nirvana.
