Bodhicitta, refers to the awakened mind or heart that aspires to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings. It is a core concept in Mahayana Buddhism, embodying the selfless motivation to seek Buddhahood not for personal liberation alone but to help others transcend suffering. Bodhicitta has two aspects: relative and absolute. Relative bodhicitta involves the compassionate desire to help others, while absolute bodhicitta is the direct realization of the true nature of reality, beyond dualistic thinking. Cultivating bodhicitta is seen as essential for progressing along the path of a bodhisattva.
